Apertures in the overall shield means field leakages; therefore we must bond the cable shield to the shield of the device. If the cable shield is intended to be a &#8220;link&#8221; between two devices, the cable shield must be bonded at both ends to the shields of the devices to keep the entire zone boundary closed and to obtain good shielding (Figure 1).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3407\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_3407\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 610px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-fullcolumn wp-image-3407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.electronic.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/fig-11-600x425.png\" alt=\"Figure 1. Transfer impedance states in ohm\/m the ratio between the disturbing voltage generated inside the shield and the disturbing current flowing on the outside of the cable shield.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3409\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_3409\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 610px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-fullcolumn wp-image-3409\" src=\"https:\/\/www.electronic.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/fig-21-600x192.png\" alt=\"Figure 2. It is frequency dependent and dependent on the materials and design. We should strive for zero ohms in bonding impedance between the cable shield and the shielding box. An impedance of 10 milliohm of a pigtail leaks as much as one meter of cable if the cable shield transfer impedance is 10 milliohm\/m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A cable entry gland provides an excellent EMI shield for screened cables which pass through enclosure walls (Fig. 4).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3413 size-fullcolumn\" src=\"https:\/\/www.electronic.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/fig-4-a1-600x302.png\" alt=\"Figure 4. Use shielded hoods for cable connectors to bond the cable shield to the box with 360 degree coverage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A generally well functioning way is to connect to the underlaying conducting surface with a clamp (Fig. 5).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3417\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_3417\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 610px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-fullcolumn wp-image-3417\" src=\"https:\/\/www.electronic.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/fig-5-600x455.png\" alt=\"Figure 5.
